Aurora Imaging's team consists of doctors, sonographers, and genetic counsellors who are all specialists trained in women's health.

Our doctors are all specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists and have developed further expertise in Maternal Fetal Medicine and complex gynaecological ultrasound imaging. We can provide a full array of ultrasound assessments and ultrasound-guided procedures.

Our genetic counsellor has extensive experience in reproductive genetics and can provide advice around all aspects of genetics in pregnancy.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists
Professor Jan Dickinson AM​

Jan Dickinson is an obstetrician and subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine. She completed her medical training at The University of Western Australia and specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, following which she received subspecialist training in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. Following her return to Perth, Jan completed a specialist degree in obstetric and gynaecologic ultrasound. She was awarded an MD by original research from The University of Western Australia.

Jan is Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (Maternal Fetal Medicine) at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at The University of Western Australia. She is the Head of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Jan has an active research interest in prenatal diagnosis and ultrasound, having published 200 manuscripts and book chapters. She has particular clinical expertise in obstetric ultrasound, complicated multiple pregnancy, and perinatal loss.

Professor Dickinson was made a Member of the Order Australia in the 2021 Australia Day Honours for services to medical education and Maternal Fetal Medicine.
Dr Scott White

Dr Scott White is an obstetrician and gynaecologist and subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine. He trained in Perth and London before returning as a consultant to King Edward Memorial Hospital in 2016. Scott holds positions as consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine at King Edward Memorial Hospital and Senior Lecturer in the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Medicine, at The University of Western Australia. Scott has a PhD in genetic epidemiology from The University of Western Australia.

Scott's areas of expertise are obstetric ultrasound, fetal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, complex multiple pregnancy, preterm birth prevention, and maternal disease in pregnancy. He maintains an active research profile in fields such as preterm birth prevention and perinatal epidemiology. Scott is active at national level in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is Editor-in-Chief of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Shin Lee

Dr Shin Lee is an obstetrician and subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Shin's training in Maternal Fetal Medicine in Melbourne, Perth, and Toronto has provided her with extensive experience in managing complex pregnancies. She has special interests in diagnostic fetal imaging and fetal therapy as well as maternal medical conditions in pregnancy. She is involved in caring for women who have experience pregnancy loss and provides a preconception counselling service to assess pregnancy risk and develop a plan to minimise the chance of complications.
Shin is passionate about teaching and training medical students, junior medical staff, and midwives. She is a training supervisor for doctors undertaking specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Shin has a postgraduate qualification in health leadership, having completed a Masters in Business Administration at The University of Western Australia. Her research interests include prenatal diagnosis and management of congenital diaphragmatic hernia and cardiac anomalies as well as maternal cardiac disease in pregnancy. Shin is fluent in Mandarin and is able to provide consultations in this language.
Obstetric and Gynaecological Sonologists
Dr Winston Almeida

Dr Winston Almeida is an obstetrician and gynaecologist at King Edward Memorial Hospital. He completed his undergraduate training at The University of Western Australia and then his specialist training through King Edward Memorial Hospital. He did two years of his ultrasound fellowship in Perth before a final year in The Women's in Melbourne. Winston received the prize for first place in the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound examination.

Winston currently holds a position as consultant obstetrician and sonologist at King Edward Memorial Hospital and is the head of the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service. His areas of ultrasound expertise include early pregnancy, gynaecology, gynaecological procedures, and general obstetric ultrasound.
Dr Heidi Hughes-D'Aeth

Dr Heidi Hughes-D'Aeth is a consultant obstetrician and sonologist. Heidi initially trained and worked as an occupational therapist before undertaking her primary medical training in New South Wales. She then returned to Western Australia where she completed specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology. Heidi went on to further specialise in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound and was awarded the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound.

Heidi holds appointments as consultant obstetrician at Fiona Stanley Hospital and sonologist at King Edward Memorial Hospital. Heidi has expertise in all facets of general obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound.

Paediatric and Fetal Cardiologist
Dr Darshan Kothari

Dr Darshan Kothari is an established paediatric and fetal cardiologist with over 20 years’ experience in treating children of all ages with congenital and acquired heart disease. Dr Kothari graduated and completed his specialist training in paediatrics from The University of Mumbai, India. He subsequently subspecialised in the field of paediatric and fetal cardiology having worked across multiple countries in four different hospitals: KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore, The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne , Starship Children’s Hospital in Auckland, and The Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.
Darshan is the Director & Head of The Fetal Cardiology service in Western Australia and is attached to King Edward Memorial Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital. He has a vast experience in imaging and compassionate counselling of families with babies diagnosed with heart anomalies.
Genetic Counsellor
Ms Karen Harrop

Karen Harrop is a qualified genetic counsellor with over 25 years' experience encompassing reproductive and preconception genetic counselling, working with families in a paediatric setting, familial cancer, and adult genetics. Karen's expertise and passion lies in reproductive genetics, often working with couples through difficult and emotionally challenging situations. Karen's experience enables her to respond compassionately and with expertise to a wide range of genetic situations, questions, and concerns.

Karen currently holds appointments as senior genetic counsellor at Genetic Services of Western Australia at King Edward Memorial Hospital. She is a registered and certified genetic counsellor by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia and a member of the Australasian Genetic Counsellors Society. She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a Masters degree in counselling.
Sonographers
Dr Michelle Pedretti

Michelle has been a sonographer for over twenty years and is currently the Chief Sonographer at King Edward Memorial Hospital. She has a PhD from The University of Western Australia investigating the implementation of cervical length screening for the prevention of preterm birth under the Western Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Initiative. Michelle has been involved with ultrasound at a local and national level. She has been on the Board of the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and held several positions, including the Chair, on the Board of the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry (ASAR). In 2017 Michelle was recognised as the Australian Sonographers' Association sonographer of the year.
Mrs Dawn Voges

Dawn Voges is a specialist obstetric and gynaecological sonographer. Originally from Western Australia, her qualifications were completed at Curtin University whereafter she worked regionally throughout Western Australia. Completing her post graduate qualifications of ultrasound in the UK, she returned to Melbourne and thereafter Perth. She specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital where she now holds the Ultrasound Department’s Deputy Chief position. Dawn brings her expertise and experience in 3D, 4D and interventional gynaecological and obstetric imaging to the team at Aurora Imaging.
Mrs Rosalyn Smith

Rosalyn has been an obstetric and gynaecological sonographer for more than 25 years. She moved from the UK to the sunnier climes of Perth with her family in 2006 to work at King Edward Memorial Hospital in the tertiary level Ultrasound Department. Rosalyn has a special interest in the fetal heart and is lucky enough to work as part of the Fetal Cardiology team performing fetal echoes at King Edward for families from all over Western Australia. Rosalyn performs a clinical and teaching role at King Edward and has been invited to give a presentation at the National Sonographers' Conference. Rosalyn is happy to bring her enthusiasm and knowledge to the team at Aurora Imaging.
Mrs Kylie Haliczenko

Kylie Haliczenko is a registered Medical Sonographer with over 15 years of experience across both the public and private sector in Western Australia. She specialises in obstetric and gynaecology ultrasound and has particular interest in endometriosis and fetal medicine. She works collaboratively with Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists providing a personalised and unique service.

Kylie provides ongoing teaching and training for student sonographers and radiology registrars to improve their own ultrasound skills. She is currently a Senior Sonographer and Acting Deputy Chief of Sonography at King Edward Memorial Hospital Perth, Western Australia.
Ms Tessa Riebau
BSc (Hons) (Medical Imaging Science) PGDip (Medical Sonography) ASAR
Tessa is a medical sonographer with a special interest in obstetric and gynaecological imaging. She completed her postgraduate training in ultrasound at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and King Edward Memorial Hospital before relocating to the UK. There, she worked at the Royal London Hospital where she was a dedicated gynaecology mentor for a student sonographer and also part of a multidisciplinary team researching the International Ovarian Tumour Analysis (IOTA) guidelines and their implementation.
Upon returning to Perth, Tessa began work as a Senior Sonographer at King Edward Memorial Hospital before joining Aurora. Tessa enjoys the challenge obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound provides and is passionate about providing excellent, patient-centred care.
Mrs Joanna Paton

Jo has worked in Women's Health for over 30 years, initially as a midwife and then in a combined midwife-sonographer role, after completing her ultrasound training at Kings College Hospital in London. Prior to emigrating to Australia she continued to work in a dual capacity and was the lead midwife-sonographer of the Feto-Maternal Medicine Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, looking after women with high risk pregnancies. Since arriving in Australia, she has accumulated considerable experience in the realm of complex gynecological ultrasound and assessment of endometriosis, particularly in the setting of infertility. She currently works as a senior sonographer at King Edward Memorial Hospital. She remains committed to delivering high quality care and is excited to have joined the team at Aurora Imaging.
